Tour of Walla Walla Bicycle Race in April

Bicycle racers from throughout the western U.S. are returning to Waitsburg and Walla Walla on the weekend of April 17th through 19th for the Banner Bank Tour of Walla Walla. Professional and amateur men and women will compete in four stages, following roads from downtown Walla Walla to northern Columbia County.
Kellogg Hollow north of Dayton plays home to the first Road Race on Friday, April 17th. Racers begin together in Waitsburg and each level in the men's and women's categories will ride a different distance. The second event is the Russell Creek Time Trial in Walla Walla on Saturday morning. The first rider takes off at 8 a.m. for an out-and-back distance of 9.3 miles.
The Tourism Walla Walla Criterium takes place in the evening on Saturday, April 18th in downtown Walla Walla. The criterium course includes many turns, bumpy roads and cheering fans as the racers speed through downtown Walla Walla. The top racers ride for 60 minutes plus one lap with the goal of finishing with the most laps. Each stage for the men and women is a mass start.
Sunday brings the Waitsburg Road Race. The long distance race loops through Waitsburg. This is an exciting race with a great hill climb on Middle Waitsburg Road, with a hill-top finish.
Local residents are invited to watch any of the stages. Saturday evening's criterium is especially suited for spectators.
