Good for Hospital to Go Smoke Free
Dear Editor,
We commend the administration of Columbia County Health Systems for their choice to make Dayton General Hospital Campus smoke free. We have watched many families suffer the results of tobacco usage in our work with home health and hospice care. I often think "if only a young person starting to smoke could see the end result!"
Keep up the good work.

Thank You for Life-Saving Efforts
Dear Editor,
This is a letter of thanks and appreciation to the staff and doctors at the hospital in Dayton for their quick and efficient help on the afternoon of July 31, 2009.
A little after 4:00 p.m. I suddenly felt my heart start to beat irregularly and very fast. I immediately asked my husband to take me to the hospital, as I was feeling very dizzy and my heart was totally out of control. I was starting to black out when we arrived at the hospital less than five minutes later.
The ER personnel quickly diagnosed my situation and began treatment to slow down my heart and stabilize those dangerous heart electrical problems I was experiencing in both the upper and lower chambers of my heart.
After I was stabilized, the staff decided to transfer me, via the Dayton ambulance, along with an accompanying ER nurse, to the ER at Kadlec Medical Center. Four days later, while in their intensive care unit, they were able to return my heart to a normal rhythm.
The staff at Kadlec was very complimentary of the work and effort performed at our hospital as being the right thing at the right time.
I truly believe our hospital saved my life and probably many others over the years. We need to have this excellent facility in our area and, for that reason, it is very important for all of us to vote yes on the upcoming levy so we can continue to maintain this hospital for the benefit of our community's residents. Without the hospital, I'm not sure I would have made it to Walla Walla, let alone Richland.
Again, my personal thanks to all the staff at our local hospital for their life-saving efforts on my behalf.
