Mayor Craig George: City of Dayton

Greetings from City Hall

This is the first of many columns I will be writing you, the citizens of Dayton and Columbia County. I again want to thank the citizens of Dayton for electing me your mayor for the next four years. I will do everything within my power to do the best job possible, and I look forward to hearing your ideas.

This column will appear every month with different topics about what is happening in your city government. The first area I want to cover is communication – communication with the citizens of Dayton. I stated in my campaign that communication with you was one of my top priorities, and it will continue to be during my term of office.

Some of the other ways we will communicate will be through updating our city website. There will be more information on that in the February column. We are also looking into doing a quarterly newsletter featuring specific items and introducing, in depth, the people who work for the city – our valued employees. The city cannot run without them.

You notice I use the term "we". City government involves more than the mayor. It is a working relationship between the Mayor, the City Council, the City employees and you. This is the way I view the term "we" and the way I envision the future four years.

My intention is to spend as much of my time as needed to attend to city affairs. The first thing I would like to announce is the establishment of regular hours for the Mayor to be at City Hall. Beginning on Tuesday, 8 January 2008, office hours will be Tuesdays from 1-3 PM and Thursdays from 9-11 AM. I will be at City Hall during these hours to take questions, hear your ideas, or discuss anything that is on your mind. This is your time to let me know what you are thinking. I still encourage everyone to attend City Council meetings (the second and fourth Mondays at 7 PM in City Hall) because we want, and need, to hear from you. We would also like your input about other issues you would like to see in this column; if there is a certain topic you would like covered, please let us know. Send your ideas to Craig George, 111 South First Street, Dayton WA 99328. I will incorporate your questions in future columns.

I would like to thank Bill Graham for his years of service to Dayton – as a City Council member and as Mayor. Under his leadership Dayton has been revitalized and will continue to reflect his guidance.

Remember, office hours begin Tuesday, 8 January 2008. I look forward to personally meeting with you.
