Thanks for a Great First Year!

When Jennie Dickinson agreed, about a year ago, to be the subject of the feature story in the first issue of Blue Mountain News, I could tell she was skeptical. But she was a good sport and went along with my little scheme, without complaint. Over the past year, literally hundreds of people have provided their cooperation and support and encouragement as I've gone along trying to figure out how to make this newspaper. So herewith, some words of thanks:

I'd like to particularly thank Tanya Patton and Diane Longanecker, who stepped up after the first issue came out and offered to help. I was flying blind for quite awhile, but having co-pilots helped a lot. The paper never would have made it this far without their valuable help.

Thanks also to my mother, Julia, and my brother Larry, for all of the thousands of mistakes they've caught while proof-reading drafts. And thanks, of course, to brother Brian for the many wonderful and amazing photos he's provided for each issue of the paper. And thanks to the other contributors and columnists who've added much-needed depth and breadth.

I also give a hearty thanks to all of our advertisers this year. You make publication of the paper possible, and your enthusiastic support has been overwhelming.

And thanks most of all to our readers. I've received countless complements and almost no complaints. I'll keep working in 2008 and beyond to try to make the paper better yet.

The coming year will see some format changes, and hopefully some growth in the paper's thickness. But we'll continue offer news stories, long and short, and feature stories about the many wonderful and interesting people in our area. And we'll try to keep doing it with a sense of humor as well as a sense of seriousness.

This is a Two-Month Issue

When you go to your mailbox, or local retailer, at the end of January, you'll find no February issue of Blue Mountain News (to your disappointment, I hope). We're taking an extra month to rest a bit and set up a new downtown office (more about that next time). We'll be back in March with another exciting and action-packed issue. In the meantime, we wish everyone a happy and successful 2008.
