Hospital CEO Grimshaw Resigns

Bruce Grimshaw will become hospital administrator in Victorville, CA. The CCHS Board hopes to hire a replacement by March.

The board of directors of the Columbia County Health System (CCHS) has accepted the resignation of its CEO, Bruce Grimshaw. His last day will be January 18. Grimshaw has accepted a position as hospital administrator in Victorville, CA.

The CCHS board has already received numerous resumes from prospective candidates to replace Grimshaw. The board plans to begin phone interviewing in early January and complete the interview process sometime in February. The board hopes to have the new CEO working by April.

In an interview, Grimshaw said he feels very good about the financial improvements that have been made at the health system since he arrived in January 2004. "We inherited a lot of problems," he said. The new management team that joined him that year faced serious budget shortfalls and imposed stringent cost-cutting measures. CCHS currently has considerable long-term debt that it is servicing. "We have a great team here now, and it will get fixed," says Grimshaw. "I'm really proud of the work these folks have done."

Grimshaw cited the failure of the levy vote in August as a stumbling block, but says the CCHS will still be able to keep improving financially. "We have a new billing manager who's doing a great job and cleaning up a lot of old issues," he says. "It's been tough dealing with all the financial issues, but it's been a great experience and I've learned a lot."
