A NY Times Columnist's Backyard A member of Friends of Scenic Columbia County recently sent us an article written by Stanley Fish, a contributing writer to the New York Times, and asked if we would consider publishing it here. Because of space constraints and the hassle that would be involved in getting permission from the Times and Mr. Fish to do that, we declined. But here's a link to the article: http://fish.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/08/26/blowin-in-the-wind/ It seems that Mr. Fish, who is a well-known author and law professor, owns a vacation home in the small town of Andes, NY. A new wind farm is being proposed near his home and he doesn't like it. In this article, he explains why. The article is actually part of a "blog" (or web log) that Mr. Fish writes regularly for nytimes.com. This article was posted on his blog last August 26. In its blogs, nytimes.com allows readers to post comments in response to columnists' articles. When you go to the above link, below Mr. Fish's article you'll see the reader comments. As of October 20th there were 180 of them. In our opinion, many of those comments are much more interesting and thoughtful than what Mr. Fish had to say. Be sure to check out #16, #42 and #123. #1 is kind of fun, too. Copyright (c) 2007, Blue Mountain News |
