Letters to the Editor
Graham Provides Outstanding Leadership Dear Editor: I am writing to endorse William Graham as an excellent choice for Mayor in the upcoming Mayoral election. I have served for the last four years as a City Councilperson under the direction of Mayor Graham. I have seen the City become financially stable and consistent in terms of legal issues, ordinances and citizen concerns. I believe that Mayor Graham has provided leadership which has enabled the city to reach many of its citizens' goals. He has always kept the needs of the city and its residents first and foremost in his decision making. As a councilmember, I have found him to be a good listener, as well as a person of action. There are currently many projects started within our city that I know Mayor Graham would like to see to their completion. I believe it would be in the voters' best interests, to give him the opportunity to follow through with projects he has spearheaded since the beginning. Mayor Graham has the ability to get along well with other people and has a great working relationship with current city personnel. I urge you to vote to retain Bill Graham as Mayor. Shelly Franklin, Dayton Bill Graham is an Effective Leader Dear Editor: I am writing this letter in support of Bill Graham for Mayor. I have known Bill since moving back to Dayton nearly 20 years ago. At that time he was the pastor of the First Congregational Church. Being a church board member, I had the opportunity to work with Bill. It was apparent that he is a team player who keeps in mind the big picture. His self-described leadership style of not being a micro-manager is accurate. If there is a problem to address, Bill works with others in charge to find and implement viable solutions. Through Bill's eight years as Mayor of Dayton, he has learned how the city government operates, and worked with city managers and employees to accomplish tasks, such as updating the city's water system, initiating a schedule for upgrading outdated equipment, obtaining funding for projects through grants, state, and federal programs, and balancing the budget, as well as building recommended budget reserves. As others have stated, Dayton is fortunate to have a choice in this year's mayoral election between two capable candidates. That doesn't always happen in a small community. However, Bill Graham is "over the hump of the learning curve" for all that the job of mayor entails and is willing to dedicate another four years to continue the progress that has been made. Bill would like to see proposed projects, such as improvement of city streets, through to fruition. Experience is a definite plus. Please join me in voting to retain Bill Graham as Mayor. Kris Takemura, Dayton Mayor Has Kept Dayton "Right on Track" Dear Editor: I'm writing this letter in support of retaining Bill Graham for Dayton's Mayor. I have known Mayor Graham for about fifteen years now and have never found him lacking any of the skills needed to be the excellent Mayor he is, has been, and will continue to be. The position of the Mayor of Dayton is one that takes a wide range of abilities. A good Mayor must not only have business sense but also work positively with people, both of which are reflected in an effective administration. Bill's record during his years in office speaks for itself. The changes he has made have resulted in a Dayton that is "right on track." Bill Graham has always been dedicated to do the right thing for Dayton. Let's do the right thing in allowing him to continue. Steve Edwards, Dayton Let's Continue Dayton's Progress Dear Editor: It is my pleasure to recommend the re-election of Bill Graham as mayor. This will assure the continuation of the excellent city government we have come to enjoy under his leadership. It has been my privilege to serve on city council the past eight years and observe the many benefits of his wise, evenhanded guidance. These have included improved relationships between city and citizens, city and county and city and Olympia. In addition, there have been improvements in streets, water and sewer, and disposal services. Bill's dedication to Dayton has resulted in the restoration of historic homes and Main Street buildings. Bill's knowledge, experience and foresight will ensure continued progress for the city of Dayton and its citizens. Don R.
